Jimmy Raney, 1993 video lecture, Youtube and yadda, yadda...

Ok, I've joined the youtube video uploaders generation. Guess there's no turning back:) I figured as long as everyone else seems to have copies of tapes of Dad and are posting them, that I might as well join the throng. Although I'm sure the calvacade of posts, "more please, please, pleaase!!!... etc" is inevitable. Anyway now that I have my vhs to dvd converter and the latest MS movie maker it shouldn't be too hard.

And here is the Youtube link to video snippet
Funny ending on it. Enjoy!

This was so cool to watch, even for a non-musician. Watching Jimmy clap time and scat to a different beat was the most eloquent explanation of time in jazz I can remember hearing or reading. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Mike. He had a way of doing stuff like that. One of his most instructive lessons to me had to do with making up a nonsense sentence to me (without warning) and asking me if it made sense. This was his advice about my playing difficulties learning how to improvise at that time.

To say he was deep would be a disservice
